Doctoral Researcher
I work as a doctoral researcher as part of a transdisciplinary Frontiers of Arctic and Global Resilience (FRONT) research program (2023–2028) focusing on community aspects of Indigenous Saami people. In my research I examine the personal, intergenerational and political meanings of Saami crafts (duodji in Northern Saami). I pay attention to the binding elements of duodji that hold the community together. More specifically I am interested in what these binding elements are like and how they create predictability and a sense of security in a time that is uncertain in many ways. I collect data by participant observation and interviews with crafters participating in craft courses.
