Aziza Baubekova

Aziza Baubekova

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Engineering with a strong focus on integrated, participatory approaches to water, food, energy, and ecosystem (WEFE) challenges under climate change. My research bridges natural and social sciences, combining systems thinking, modelling, and stakeholder engagement to support science-policy interactions and just sustainability transitions, with regional expertise in Central Asia, the Arctic, and semi-arid regions.

I apply WEFE nexus frameworks and system dynamics modelling to address complex socio-ecological challenges, including urban water sustainability, transboundary water governance, and the climate resilience of rural communities.

Beyond academia, I serve as Vice Chair of Young Water Professionals Finland, Water Europe Expert, and a national hydrology consultant, providing strategic advice to UNDP and national ministries. I also contribute to the scientific community as a guest editor for a special issue of the International Journal of Water Resources Development and by convening sessions at international conferences, most recently EGU25, and upcoming ECSA 2026 and EGU26.
