Fedja Poikonen

I am a doctoral researcher in the OASIS research group in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Oulu. In the field of information systems research, I focus in behavior change in the digital context. Persuasive Systems influence our attitudes and behaviors, and Behavior Change Support Systems (BCSS) are systems that help achieve certain behavior changes, for example, adopting healthier habits to reduce weight or controlling screen time.

I have a Master of Science degree in Information Processing Science from the University of Oulu. In my Master's thesis and related scientific publications, we studied the use of mobile BCSS to help recover from Digital Addiction, the harmful overuse of digital devices. In my doctoral research, I analyse data from BCSSs for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and coronary disease. A specific interest is how users set goals for themselves and how the system could help them do so. Also, susceptibility to persuasion — the pre-existing differences in the way a person can be persuaded — is studied.
