Gabriela Lorite Yrjänä

Gabriela S. Lorite received her Ph.D. in Science (2011) and M.Sc. in Physics (2007) degrees at the Department of Applied Physics, State University of Campinas, Brazil. She was appointed as Docent/Adjunct Professor of "Functional nanomaterials for bioelectronics and bioengineering" at the University of Oulu in 1st May, 2019. Currently, she holds the position of Academy Research Fellow and she is also the Project Coordinator of MIRACLE project (EU-H2020). Her research so far focused on multidisciplinary field combining material science and bioscience. Dr. Lorite's research group is working on development of functional and smart scaffolds for tissue engineering. At the present moment, neural and cartilage cells are the main focus of the applications. Furthermore, her research also contributes to the development of medical devices and biosensors towards more effective diagnostic methods. In particular, the development of biosensors for osteoarthritis biomarkers have been in focus.
