Helka-Liisa Hentilä (Dr. Tech. Arch. SAFA) is a professor in Urban Design and Planning (since 2003-) at the Oulu School of Architecture, University of Oulu. She has acted as a Vice Rector of University of Oulu (2015-2020), Dean of Faculty of Architecture and Vice Dean of Faculty of Technology and as the Chair of the University Collegium (2022-2025). She has acted as a PI of several multidisciplinary research projects funded by Academy of Finland, EU, ministries, industry, foundations, and municipalities. She was recently the PI of a multidisciplinary strategic research consortium "Resistant Cities. Urban Planning as Means for Pandemic Prevention" (RECIPE 2021-2024). https://www.aka.fi/en/strategic-research/strategic-research/strategic-r… Hentilä is the degree program director for the international multidisciplinary joint master's degree programme Erasmus Mundus Joint Master – Redesigning the Post-Industrial City (RePIC) at the University of Oulu. She is a member of the Research, Foresight and Evaluation Section of the National Sports Council (2020-2027). She is also a registered urban planning practitioner with experience of both private and public urban planning practices, and an author of 15 prize-winning or awarded national and international architecture competition entries mainly in the field of urban design and planning. Her expertise includes HEI quality audits and leadership of student-centered learning and teaching within HEIs. She has received the Otto-Iivari Meurman Prize from the Finnish Association of Architects in 2025.
