Henna Pääkkö

Henna Pääkkö, a PhD researcher at the University of Oulu, investigates the impacts of land use on freshwater biodiversity in Nordic countries. Her research focuses on benthic invertebrates, assessing how land use pressures, such as agriculture and forestry, affect their taxonomic and functional diversity. She also aims to identify critical land use thresholds at which freshwater community structure and function change significantly, and evaluate temporal variability in benthic communities to distinguish true biodiversity loss from natural shifts over time. This work will inform sustainable land use management practices and conservation policies for freshwater ecosystems.
