Current research project:

The Authority of Science? The Circulation of Evolutionary Ideas in Public Discourse in Finland 1860-1910

My current research-project deals with the circulation of evolutionary ideas in Finland from 1859 to 1909. I study the variety of knowledge of evolutionary theory which was available to people from different levels of society, and how this knowledge circulated through public debate and other popular contexts like newspapers, art, literature, and curriculums in schools. While investigating how the knowledge about key works of evolutionary theory transformed when it circulated between different forms of media, literary genres and societal context, my project also deals with questions concerning the transfer, authority and trustworthiness of knowledge, as well as the materiality of scientific knowledge.

The project is funded by The Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS).
