Prof. Seppo Yrjölä holds a D.Sc. (Tech.) degree in Telecommunications Engineering and a D.Sc. (Econ.) degree in International Business from the University of Oulu and is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Oulu in the field of techno-economics. He has been building radios for 37 years across research, development, innovation, and business development. Previously, he served as Principal Engineer and Head of Wireless Technology for the Networks division at Nokia. He has been awarded over €10 million in competitive research funding as lead investigator, has authored more than 170 scientific publications, and holds several patents in the radio domain. Prof. Yrjölä conducts multidisciplinary research that combines technological, business, and regulatory perspectives. His current mission is to digitalize the remaining 70% of GDP in order to drive massive productivity growth, enable new business opportunities, and empower people. With roots in engineering and economics, he explores how and why platform‑based ecosystemic business models can emerge in future wireless systems in a sustainable and human‑centric manner.
