About the doctoral education pilot

The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture has allocated EUR 255 million to universities for piloting new practices in doctoral education in 2024–2027. This funding will be allocated to 1,000 doctoral researchers who will have a three-year employment contract to complete their doctoral degree.

Pilots are led by national consortiums which make up networks of interested parties in universities, industries and the third sector, all committed to creating new and improved ways of supporting doctoral researchers. A specific focus will be on ensuring strong working-life connections in academia and outside it. The pilots were selected based on an international review carried out by the Research Council of Finland.
