Eligibility

The application period for studies starting in autumn 2027 opens in October 2026.

Rolling Admission is available for the Bachelor's programme in International Business Management.
You can apply if you have completed one of the following qualifications or are completing one in spring or summer 2027:

• a qualification completed outside Finland that provides eligibility for equivalent higher education in the country where it was awarded
• the Finnish matriculation examination taken at the end of general upper secondary school
• an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
• a European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma
• a Reifeprüfung/Deutsches Internationales Abitur Diploma (RP/DIA)
• a Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE)

• a Vocational Upper Secondary Qualification, Further Vocational Qualification or Specialist Vocational Qualification as referred to in the Vocational Education and Training Act

  Applying before graduation

  If you are completing your qualification in spring or summer 2027, you can apply before you graduate. You must submit your most recent transcript of records with your application. See Application documents for information on the documents you need to submit with your application.
  You must graduate by 13 July 2027 and submit your final degree certificate to the University of Oulu by the same date. Your admission will be conditional until you have graduated and submitted the final documents. See Bachelor’s application timeline and deadlines for all important dates.

  English language requirements

  To apply, you must demonstrate that your English language proficiency meets the requirements. See our English language requirements for Bachelor's degrees page to find out how you can demonstrate your English language proficiency.

To be eligible to apply, you must have completed a first academic degree, normally a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, at an institution of higher education. As a rule, the Bachelor’s degree is the lower academic degree. This degree should be equivalent of at least three years of full-time studies (180 ECTS). Your previous degree must give you eligibility for Master's studies in your country of education.

Applying before graduation

If you are completing your qualification in spring or summer 2027, you can apply before you graduate. You must submit your most recent transcript of records with your application. See Application documents for information on the documents you need to submit with your application. You must graduate by 30 July 2027 and submit your final degree certificate to the University of Oulu by the same date. Your admission will remain conditional until you have graduated and submitted the final documents. See Master’s application timeline and deadlines for all important dates.

If you already have a study right at the University of Oulu or have graduated from the University of Oulu with a degree of equivalent content, you will not be granted a new study right.

The equivalence of the degree content is assessed by the relevant faculty as part of the admissions process.

If you already have a study right

• Missed registration: If you have missed the registration period for the academic year, you must apply for re-registration instead of applying for a new study right through student admissions.
  
• Study right expiring: If your study right is expiring, you must apply for an extension of your study right. If an extension is not granted and you wish to complete your studies at the University of Oulu, you must apply for a new study place through student admissions.
  
• Deactivated study right: If your study right has been deactivated, you must apply for reactivation instead of applying for a new study right through student admissions.
  
• Checking your study rights: You can check your current and potential study rights, for example, in the My Studyinfo service. You should also familiarise yourself with the University of Oulu’s opportunities for non-degree study rights and the grounds for extending a study right.

If you have already graduated from the University of Oulu

If you have already graduated from a degree programme with equivalent content, you will not be granted a new study right. The equivalence of the degree content is assessed by the relevant faculty as part of the admissions process.

Examples

• Same or equivalent degree content
  If you have graduated from the University of Oulu with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering and apply to the same programme again, you will not be granted a new study right because you already hold a degree with equivalent content.
• Different degree content
  If you have graduated with a degree in Product and Project Management and apply to a Master’s programme in Environmental Engineering, you may be granted a new study right if the degree content is not considered equivalent. The degree titles being the same does not prevent you from being granted a new study right.
• Expiring study right
  If you have a study right in the Chemistry of Sustainable Processes and Materials programme and your study right is expiring, you must apply for an extension of your existing study right rather than a new study right through student admissions.
• Other study opportunities
  If you have already graduated from a degree programme with equivalent content, you can contact the University of Oulu Academic Affairs Service Teams or the Open University to explore other study opportunities in the field.

If the applicant is a refugee or in a position equivalent to a refugee or evaluated by the higher education institution to be an asylum seeker, and they cannot prove their degree with documents, the higher education institution may invite the applicant to the entrance exam. The applicant must have an official decision stating their refugee status (asylum decision or residence permit based on protection). The applicant must submit a copy of the official decision to the admissions services of all universities of application destinations within the previously announced deadline.

Applicants with refugee status must prove their language skills as required by the university.

The application will be considered by the Selection Committee only if:

1. The applicant’s previous education meets the eligibility requirements for the Master’s or Bachelor’s programme.
2. The applicant’s language proficiency meets the language requirements.
