Enrollment in cross-institutional studies at other higher education institutions and completion of studies

Plan your studies in advance. You can explore the cross-institutional study networks on this page, in the study guide or in Peppi - if the studies are added to the Cross-Institutional Study Information Service. Before enrolling, check whether these studies can be included in your degree. Cross-institutional studies must be included to an approved PSP.

If the studies are not found in Peppi

1. Apply for the studies following the network-spesific instructions (see details below).
2. Register to courses as instructed.
3. After you have completed your cross-institutional studies and have received assessment in study registry, print your transcript of records from the partner University's study information system or retrieve a link to them from My Studyinfo-service (Oma Opintopolku). There is a two-day delay in transferring the records from the target university's registry to My Studyinfo.

Transferring cross-institutional study assessments to the home university study information system

• After you have received the transcript apply for recognition of learning. Instructions can be found here.
• Doctoral researchers add cross-institutional studies as personal study units to Peppi’s personal study plan. Instructions can be found here.

If the studies can be found at Peppi/Cross-Institutional Study Information Service:

1. Log in to University of Oulu’s Peppi and add studies to your PSP on “selecting studies” -tab. Instructions for adding studies to PSP can be found on the students' Peppi wiki. Please note that you cannot enroll on the courses in Tuudo
2. Enroll for the studies on the “Enrolments” -tab in PSP. Instructions on peppi-wiki.
3. By registering through the service, your study attainment will be transferred directly to the University of Oulu’s Peppi without the need for recognition of learning

Check what studies are available and update your study plan. From the Cross-institutional Studies Study Guide you can find the University of Oulu's cross-institutional study offering. Some networks have an application period, check it below.

Make sure you are able to include the studies to your degree in your home institution.

If the studies are not found in Peppi

1. Submit the application for cross-institutional studies. The application form can be found here. Notice that the processing of your application takes approximately 1-3 weeks.
2. Follow the instruction e-mails that you received. Register to courses as instructed.
3. After you have completed your cross-institutional studies and have received assessment, print your transcript of records from the University of Oulu's Peppi. See the instructions of you home University for transferring the records into your registry.

If the studies can be found at Peppi/Cross-Institutional Study Information Service:

1. Log in to your home University’s Peppi and add studies to your PSP on “selecting studies” -tab.
2. Enroll for the studies on the “Enrolments” -tab in PSP.
3. The status of your registration is visible in your PSP. Before starting your studies, check that your enrolment has been approved.
4. Activate your University of Oulu’s student account before the start of studies
5. Log in to the Moodle with your University of Oulu’s student account https://moodle.oulu.fi/
6. After the completion of your studies, you will see a grade in your home university's Peppi.

Note! Logging in to Moodle

Cross-institutional students will be added to the Moodle course area within three hours of their first login to the Moodle environment between 06:00 and 21:00. If the student has previously logged into the Moodle environment of the University of Oulu, they will be added to the Moodle course area immediately. Students will also be added to the Moodle course area immediately during nighttime hours.

Animal physiology education network offers cross-institutional studies between the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Oulu. There are two courses provided by the University of Eastern Finland:

• Environmental Adaptation of Animals, 6cr (available in English)
• Eläinfysiologia ja histologia, 5cr (only available in Finnish).

In order to view the DigiCampus course pages linked above use "Login with HAKA account". The Environmental Adaptation of Animals course is available for both degree students and exchange students of the University of Oulu.

To enroll into the course(s) please contact the person responsible of the courses (Lumi Viljakainen) via email.

Applied mathematics network offers studies in mathematics. Network includes studies in the following universitys: University of Eastern Finland, University of Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology, University of Tampere, University of Oulu and Åbo Akademi. The studies are intended for students in the following fields of study: natural sciences, computer science and telecommunications (ICT) and engineering

Degree students (lower and higher university degrees) and postgraduate students who meet the pre-requisites of the courses are eligible to apply for studies in the Applied Mathematics Network. The course offerings are aimed at students in the fields of natural sciences, computer science and telecommunications (ICT) and engineering.

Courses can be completed as distance learning. Implementations may include an on-campus exam but they will be arranged in EXAM if possible.

Biodiversity education network of Finnish universities offers courses related to biodiversity now and in the future. The courses are offered as a joint effort of the University of Eastern Finland, the University of Helsinki, the University of Oulu, the University of Turku and the University of Jyväskylä.

The courses offered by the Biodiversity education network are available for the degree students of University of Oulu. The studies are mainly directed for biology, environmental sciences, agronomy, forest sciences and geography students.

Climate University offers climate and sustainability themed courses free of charge. University of Oulu students can apply to cross-institutional studies at the Climate University. Students from co-operation universities can apply to cross-institutional studies at the University of Oulu.

Cross-institutional studies are available for higher education institution degree students with an annual registration status as 'present'. Cross-institutional studies are also available for incoming exchange students, if cross-institutional course(s) is/are marked as 'offered for exchange students' in a network agreement.

Co-op Network Studies (CNS) offers multidisciplinary, web-based minor subject courses and modules related to the co-operative sector and social economy. The courses organised by Co-op Network Studies are open to all students of the University of Oulu. The students can choose individual courses and more extensive study modules free of charge.

Collaboration on teaching of astronomy and space physics network includes studies in the following universitys: University of Turku, Aalto University, University of Helsinki and University of Oulu.

Digital Commerce offer seven 5 - 6 cr courses for the students of participating universities and all open university students. The courses are offered completely online as a joint effort by five Finnish universities. More information about courses can be found in Digital Commerce webpage and in Peppi. The courses are held online. The studies are mainly targeted for other than business students.

University of Oulu students

• Three courses are offered in English: Sales and Buyer Behaviour in Retailing and Brand experience in retailing, and BO00AU08 Digital Platforms and Analytics.
• Students at the University of Oulu enroll in Peppi or Tuudo to courses arranged by the University of Oulu.

Doctoral courses listed in website doctoralcourses.fi are available to all doctoral researchers that have a doctoral study right in one of the following Finnish partner universities: Aalto University, Hanken Svenska handelshögskolan, University of Eastern Finland, University of Jyväskylä, University of Lapland, LUT University, University of Oulu, Tampere University, University of Turku, University of Vaasa, and Åbo Akademi.

Applying to doctoral courses:

• Doctoral researchers of the University of Oulu can apply free of charge for doctoral courses offered by other Finnish universities in accordance with the guidelines of each university.
• More detailed application instructions and course information can be found on Doctoral courses webpage.
• Completed course is added to PSP in Peppi as a personal study unit.

Evolutionary Psychology minor studies, 25cr are available for psychology degree students in the University of Oulu. The studies are provided by the University of Turku. Psychology degree students of the University of Oulu with status as 'Present' can apply for Evolutionary Psychology minor studies, 25cr offered by the University of Turku (UTU).

Instructions:

1. Get to know the course offering from UTU's Study Guide. Note that some courses are only available in Finnish.
2. Fill the JOO application form found in UTU's website (PDF or Word).
3. Send the filled form to study.education@oulu.fi to get a support for your studies. Note that the support can only be granted if the applied studies fit in the minimum scope of your studies.
   Note! The application is binding and the minor studies will be considered as a received minor in the Faculty of Eduation's application process for minor studies.
4. Send the supported application to UTU's Student Adviser: oposci@utu.fi.
5. After you have completed the studies, follow the general How to Apply? -instructions found above to include the studies in your degree.

Finland Futures Academy (FFA) is a network of 9 Finnish universities. The network provides courses related to futures studies and research. Futures Studies courses are available for undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Oulu, including exchange students. Courses can be taken as individual study modules or as a tailored study program of 25 credits, and can be included in a master’s degree or postgraduate studies. Please contact your study program's responsible person to ensure that the Futures Studies can be included in your personal study plan (PSP).

Information about Futures Studies courses that are available in English can be found in the Study Guide of the University of Turku as well as on the FFA network's website. Notice that some courses may require face-to-face participation.

After you have completed a Futures Studies course, ask for a transcript of records from the university organizing the course.

The network is coordinated by the Finland Futures Research Centre at the University of Turku.

FIN-GEO Cross-institutional Study Network. Through the network, can students in geosciences (or related study fields) from the partner universities complete undergraduate or postgraduate studies. The network includes the geosciences related study programmes in the following universities: Aalto University, University of Helsinki, University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, and Oulu Mining School at the University of Oulu.

Finnish University Partnership for International Development is a network of Finnish universities that supports interdisciplinary studies and research, as well as societal impact and partnerships of universities related to global sustainable development.

FITech Network University offers selected studies from all technical universities in Finland. FITech offers university courses free of charge for degree students and adult learners. Through FITech, degree students at the University of Oulu can study courses from other Finnish technical universities and include them in their degrees.

FITech offers minors as well as individual courses with topics such as marine technology, energy technology, automation technology and information technology.

All available courses can be found on FITech website. Students can apply with just one application form to all of the courses that are marked suitable for degree students.

Instructions:

1. Get to know the course offering. You can filter the courses based on topic, language and course level, among other things.
2. Remember to include the FITech studies in your personal study plan (PSP) before you apply by filling in a pre-application form in Peppi.
3. Get your study rights by filling in an application in FITech’s application system. Click the “Start here” button on each course page to be directed to the right application form. Once your application has been accepted, you will get instructions on how to activate your IT-credentials and enroll to the courses. If you apply for courses from several Universities, you will get separate IT-credentials and a user account/email address for each of them.
4. After getting your study right, you can activate your user account, enroll to the courses and log in to the study platforms. The study practices vary between Universities, so please read the instructions sent to you carefully. Please notice that the Universities send study information to the University email, so remember to read the mails regularly or forward them to your own email account.
5. After completing the course, you have to transfer the study credits to University of Oulu. Follow the instructions found above in the How to apply? -section. If you need a transcript of records, you can order it from the student office of the University organizing the course.
6. If you are taking a whole minor at FITech, transfer first all credits to your home University and then apply for the registration of the minor in your home University.

KiVANET network offers a wide variety of language courses in 13 different languages from A1 to C1 levels. The language course learning paths have been built based on digital pedagogics. The courses are open for free to all degree-students of the University of Oulu.

LITO - Basic business studies offer eight 5 cr courses for the students of participating universities. The courses are offered completely online as a joint effort by ten Finnish universities. University of Oulu students

• Students at the University of Oulu enroll in Peppi or Tuudo to course 724834P Basics of Marketing and Sales, 5 cr, arranged by the University of Oulu in 2025-2026 (implementation 724834P-3005). Note: course offered by UniOulu varies annually - please check details each year from Peppi study guide.
• Oulu Business School students (OBS) cannot include LITO studies in BSc or MSc degrees.

Sustainability studies network offers courses that include environment, sustainability, and responsibility themes. Its courses can be studied by degree and exchange students and doctoral researchers of the network’s member universities. The Sustainability studies network includes 11 higher education institutions.

The Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Nursing Science is a national doctoral education network, which includes representatives from all Finnish universities offering doctoral nursing science education.

Finnish University Partnership for International Development UniPID offers virtual studies about global development and sustainability, with a specific focus on Global South perspectives. All courses are worth of 5 ECTS, are conducted in English, and free for students at the member universities.

UEF-OY Biomedical Engineering and Physics network offers cross-institutional studies between the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Oulu. Two courses are offered, one by the University of Oulu (Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, 5 ECTS) and the other by the University of Eastern Finland (Computational Mechanics and Biology, 5 ECTS).

YUNET – Finnish University Network for Youth Studies is a cooperation project between five higher eduction units and the Finnish Youth Research Society. YUNET complements and strengthens youth studies education nationally by coordinating and organizing Bachelor’s level courses for the students of its member organizations.

YUNET network studies are targeted for degree students in the Faculty of Education. The network provides online courses and other flexible study modules (in Finnish).

YUNET offers one course in English: Methods in youth studies, 5 cr (Nuorisotutkimuksen menetelmät).
