Research group description

The National Climate and Energy Strategy emphasizes the green transition and the transition away from Russian fossil energy. The strategy focuses on the electrification of the energy system, the use of system integration, and the promotion of the hydrogen economy and electric fuels. Finland's strength is seen as its role as a provider of new technology. The strategy aims to bring investments, jobs and economic growth, utilize natural resources sustainably, and improve security of supply and self-sufficiency.

The increase in green transition investments and the debate about Finland's role as an energy producer have raised concerns about the retention of added value in production areas. Understanding the mechanisms of value creation is crucial for the acceptability of projects and the success of regions. Investments must ensure that value creation remains in the region and supports local actors and the well-being of residents.

The research group started its activities in August 2025 as the Value added from sustainable energy business project. The project aims to ensure that green transition investments are integrated into business ecosystems in a way that they generate added value and create new growth to businesses. The project is implemented in an example province (North Ostrobothnia), but its results will serve the entire Finnish regions and international ecosystems.
