Doctoral programme committees
The Doctoral Programme Committee handles issues ranging from admission to accepting the doctoral thesis. Each doctoral researcher in the University of Oulu belongs to one of the four doctoral programmes and the corresponding Doctoral Programme Committee.
Doctoral Programme Committee:
- Leads the doctoral programme training
- Accepts degree requirements proposed by the degree programmes
- Is responsible for doctoral student selections –Numbers, criteria for admission, evaluation of applications
- Grants permissions to defend the doctoral theses
- Approves and grades the doctoral theses
Chair of Doctoral Programme Committee:
- Accepts new doctoral researchers to take the degree
- Issues certificates of doctoral degrees
- Appoints the pre-examiners, opponent and custos
- Approves changes of supervisors and appoints additional supervisors
- Appoints follow-up group members
The members of doctoral programme committees represent different disciplines. They usually also act as directors of the doctoral degree programmes.

Doctoral degree programme directors are appointed to plan, implement, organise and assure the quality of degree programmes in doctoral training. Degree programme director also prepares a curriculum for field specific doctoral studies.
