Sami Pohjolainen

I am a university teacher, doctoral researcher, and coordinator of the Business Analytics degree programme at the University of Oulu. I am affiliated with the Oulu Advanced Research on Service and Information Systems (OASIS) research group within the Software Engineering and Information Systems (SEIS) research unit at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

My research focuses on Persuasive Technology, Persuasive Systems Design, Behaviour Change Support Systems, and Persuasive User Experience. I am also interested in gamification, usability, user experience, and the dark side of information technology, including dark patterns.

My current research examines Persuasive User Experience in mHealth technologies developed within our research unit. In particular, I investigate how design choices influence users’ experiences, engagement, and behaviour change outcomes.

In my teaching and coordination work, I contribute to education in information systems and related fields and coordinate the Business Analytics degree programme. This role includes supporting programme development and coordination, as well as contributing to the educational experience of students.

I hold a master’s degree from the University of Oulu, where I completed the programme in Software, Systems and Services Development in the Global Environment at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.
