Exhibition space 

In the exhibition space you can get acquainted with research of the focus areas of the University of Oulu through touch screens and a VR headset. There are 9 to 12 different research projects presented at once and you can also find related exhibition material to familiarize with. In the exhibition space you can also get acquainted with low-carbon companies of Northern Ostrobothnia in the Virtual Showroom. The space is excellent for organizing even larger events and there are seats available for 60 people. It is possible to organize dinner or coffee events in the room. The large screen is suitable for showing video material and slideshows from the visitors' own computers.  There is also a wireless presenter,  a headset microphone and a throwable Catchbox microphone for discussion events.

Sara

Multifunctional space Sara is suitable for organizing different kinds of workshops, hackathons and small lectures. In the room you can find height-adjustable tables and chairs for 30 people and a lot of surfaces to draw on as well as equipment for workshops and sketching.  There is also a 75 inch touch screen which you can connect wirelessly or  with wired connection to you laptop or smart device. In Sara you can find a mini kitchen (with a sink, oven, dishwasher, coffee maker and an electric kettle).  There is also a VR stop in Sara.

Vanamo

Meeting room Vanamo is suitable for organizing small meetings for max. 12 people. In the room you can find a 75 inch touch screen for presenting your own materials with a wired or wireless connection and a large magnetic board as well as workshop equipment for drawing and attaching. The room has a conference speaker (Jabra Speak 510). From Vanamo there is a beautiful view to the University of Oulu Botanical Gardens.

Tree Faces Exhibition by Francis Joy

In the ancient times, the Druids were priests and priestesses who revered the divinities within nature, paying respect to all her kingdoms, especially trees. Trees were elevated in society due to their healing and transformative powers and because of how they have their own unique identities and personalities. They can also become guardians and protectors of land and families. They produce oxygen and play a central role and function in sustaining life on earth.

Trees can and will provide insight and answers to modern-day questions and challenges if we are respectful towards nature, purposefully slow down and open our hearts and minds and remember that like trees, we too are part of the kingdoms within nature, and as such, we may communicate with them. Thus, trees helping us strengthen our connection to the natural world.

The digital exhibition will run for one year and begins with a collection of photographs that will be displayed will change every three months. Therefore, in total, the arrangement will consist of eighty photographs, meaning twenty for each season (spring, summer, autumn and winter).

Dr Francis Joy is a Druid, poet, healer and post-doctoral researcher, from the United Kingdom who is currently living and working in Rovaniemi, specializing in the study of shamanism.

Francis Joy’s photographic digital exhibition brings together a collection of tree faces, eyes and defining characteristics that look like bodies of elves, fairies and other beings that have been captured within different species of trees from northern Finland. These forms and features help remind us of certain magical powers inherent within trees and how they can communicate with human beings if we learn to be still and allow their presence to become more evident to us in different ways as we attune our own personal rhythm to those within nature in order to transform our lives.
