Logo
In practice, the logo appears at two hierarchical levels: the main logo and the sub-logo.
As there are plenty of faculties and institutions belonging to the University of Oulu, a systematic method has been devised to compose their respective logos.
The “tower” symbol is omitted from the sub-brand logos.
All the same rules of use apply for the sub-brand logos as for the University logo, with the addition that the “University of Oulu” text should always be black.
The names of the sub-brands are written on either two or three lines, depending on the length of the name.
The Finnish language versions of the sub brands’ logos follow the same rules as the English language versions.
1. The ideal way to use the logo is to have it on a pure white surface.
2. On colored surfaces, a logo variant with white symbol and text should be used.
3. The logo can be placed on a photo as long as the background color is solid or near-solid and there’s sufficient contrast.
4. The symbol can be used on it’s own.
5. The wordmark can be used on it’s own.
6. Both the symbol and wordmarks can be used separately within the same application.
As a general guideline for all materials and platforms, only one set of rays should be used at a time. Similarly, only one logo with rays should be used at a time.
The main logo can be used at any time. However, if the sub-logo is used, it must be displayed separately and not together with the main logo or other sub-logos.
The rays of the logo can also be used on their own. Only the wordmark of the university’s logo should be used when the rays are used as a separate element along with an image, headline or symbols.
The size ratio of the rays depend on the size of the object they are used along with. The size should not be overpowering nor underwhelming. Placing the rays close to faces is not advisable; the rays should not look like horns.
