Nordic Learning Analytics Summer Institute 2023

We are pleased to welcome you to the Nordic Learning Analytics Summer Institute (NLASI 2023) that will be held on May 31st - June 1st, 2023, at the University of Oulu (Finland). There will be two excellent keynotes given by top scientists Dr. Simon Knight and Prof. Guoying Zhao.

The theme of the Summer Institute this year is:

Education in change – co-evolution of learners, technology, and data analytics

Digitalization has brought new opportunities to understand teaching and learning processes. It enables researchers to uncover the underlying mechanisms of learning, that until recently have not been accessible, to improve learning. It also helps teachers and educational practitioners to provide better support to their students across the education field. Multimodal data analysis has especially contributed to the deeper understanding of complex learning processes.

While there are many opportunities for renewing and developing education with data, analytics and AI-based methods, several questions remain open. Analyzing multichannel and other data presents several challenges that are associated with the alignment between theoretical notions, data structure and methodological assumptions that underlie these types of analysis. During the Nordic LASI 2023 we will discuss how multimodal data collection and analytics will renew our understanding of the learning processes and what it implies for learning support. The discussion will also address how learning analytics and educational data can improve teaching and the decisions that teachers, schools, and educational institutions take, and how multimodal analytics research can be translated into evidence-based educational technology.
