Highlighting the impacts of mobile communication technologies at Sustainable Development Week
The event was organized as one of the activities within the 6G Multiband Wireless and Optical Signaling for Integrated Communications, Sensing and Localisation (6G-MUSICAL) project, funded by the European Commission through the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). The project investigates the new concept of joint communication and sensing in 6G and defines and validates business cases and sustainability issues.
Critically examining the promises and challenges of digitalization
The initiative to have a stand and engage with students and a broader audience aimed to raise awareness about the environmental, social, and economic impacts of information and communication technologies (ICT), with a special focus on future 6G innovations, including joint communication and sensing.
Visitors and students to the stand were invited to critically examine the sustainability of their digital lifestyle by engaging in dynamic interaction. Through interactive displays and expert-led discussions, the event encouraged participants to examine sustainability in the context of digitalization.
“The goal was to spark meaningful dialogue and inspire students to think critically about the role of digital technologies in shaping a sustainable future,” said Dr. Oxana Gisca, Postdoctoral Researcher at Martti Ahtisaari Institute, Oulu Business School.
The Sustainability Week event served as a timely reminder of the importance of aligning technological advancement with sustainability goals.
