Research and education in focus during Denmark’s Ambassador visit

Denmark’s Ambassador to Finland, Jakob Nymann-Lindegren, met with the advisory board of the Martti Ahtisaari Institute and the University of Oulu’s Vice Rector Petteri Alahuhta. The two-hour meeting focused especially on cooperation between the two countries in the fields of research and education.

Denmark’s Ambassador to Finland Jakob Nymann-Lindegren, Honorary Consul Johan Granholm, and Deputy Head of Mission Maja Elkjaer Frank met with Vice Rector Petteri Alahuhta and the advisory board of the Martti Ahtisaari Institute.

The discussion highlighted current key themes in research and education at the Martti Ahtisaari Institute, the Oulu Business School, and the University of Oulu, as well as related collaboration with Danish partners. These included, for example, opportunities for joint research funding, the role of business schools in supporting companies’ internationalization, and the integration of international students into working life.

Research collaboration is already close and productive: over the past five years, researchers from the University of Oulu and Danish universities have published 564 joint research papers.

Exploring future technologies and collaboration

“It’s great to visit Oulu. You have a lot going on, especially with the collaboration between the university and vibrant local business community,” said Ambassador Jakob Nymann-Lindegren. “The security and technology sectors are very interesting to us, and it has been great to see the university’s plans in these areas and how you intend to continue working on them,” he added.

The Martti Ahtisaari Institute's research themes focus on future digital business, sustainability and responsibility, and entrepreneurship. The institute’s research sparked discussion on artificial intelligence and its prospects, the role of AI in business development, business opportunities utilizing 5G and 6G technologies, health technology, and the development of security technology.

Sauli Sohlo, Deputy Director of the Martti Ahtisaari Institute and organizer of the visit was pleased with the outcome: “The discussions were fruitful and provided a solid foundation for future collaboration,” he concluded.

Members of the Martti Ahtisaari Institute’s advisory board include Director and Chairman of the board Marko Ahtisaari, Professor Eva Liljeblom, Managing Director Keijo Posio, Member of Parliament Tytti Tuppurainen, Professor and Dean Janne Järvinen, Professor and Director Petri Ahokangas, and Deputy Director Sauli Sohlo.
