Shared goal of the University of Oulu, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Oulu Business School: Strengthening the vitality of the region

The Communications Committee of the Oulu Chamber of Commerce met with representatives of the university and the business school management. The meeting focused on current topics and future perspectives. The shared goal is to boost the vitality of the Northern Ostrobothnia region and to deepen the cooperation between the university and the chamber even further.
The Oulu Chamber of Commerce’s Communications Committee and the management of the University of Oulu and Oulu Business School discussed ways to enhance regional vitality and strengthen mutual collaboration.

The visit, hosted by the University of Oulu and the Oulu Business School, concentrated on reviewing the shared operating environment and strategic outlook. Rector Arto Maaninen of the University of Oulu praised the collaboration between the university and the chamber as well as the outcomes of the meeting:

“We had excellent discussions, and it’s great that the Business School was the special focus this time. I hope the cooperation will continue to deepen.”

Vice Rector for Cooperation Petteri Alahuhta highlighted the Chamber’s important role in business collaboration:

“The Chamber of Commerce acts as a kind of hub for business cooperation – a place where many connections come together.”

Dean Janne Järvinen of Oulu Business School also emphasized the importance of partnerships:

“The Chamber of Commerce has always been an important partner for the Business School. We share the same goal – promoting the vitality of Northern Finland,” he added.

International talent strengthens regional vitality, businesses play a key role

CEO of the Oulu Chamber of Commerce Jari Tuovinen underlined the importance of competence and skills in driving the vitality of Northern Ostrobothnia:

“Our goal is the growth of Northern Finland, and growth requires skilled people. The university plays a crucial role in that, particularly in developing and providing talent.”

Tuovinen also noted the importance of attracting and retaining international experts in the region’s businesses:

“It’s vital to ensure that international talent stays and works in our companies.”

Growth happens together, not alone. As Liisa Humalamäki, Vice Chair of the Communications Committee, reminded:

“A concrete way to support regional vitality is through donations – that’s why it’s important for companies to be strongly involved.”

Sauli Sohlo, Deputy Director of the Martti Ahtisaari Institute and member of the Chamber’s Communications Committee, who organized the visit, was very pleased with the outcomes:

“The discussion gave us excellent ideas for further developing our activities,” he noted.

Finally, Tuovinen highlighted the long-standing cooperation between the institutions. Business education in Oulu was first launched in the early 1990s at the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce.
