Get ready for the new academic year – see important dates and things to remember

Welcome to the new academic year! There’s a lot to remember at the start of the year, and these tips will help you get off to a smooth start.

Are You a New Student?

Please make sure you register as attending or non-attending no later than 12 August 2025 at 3:00 p.m. (see the detailed information on the website). Log in to the My Studyinfo service to register. You can order your student card once you have paid the student union membership fee.

Your new student account for the university will be created after you have registered as attending and paid the student union membership fee. You will receive an email once your account has been created. Please note that the account will only be ready to use after you activate it by setting a password. You can get help from the ICT Service if needed!

The healthcare fee granting access to FSHS services must be paid to Kela each semester. No invoice will be sent - you need to pay the fee proactively in OmaKela.

Apply for student financial aid from Kela. (Only if applicable. Check the eligibility for financial aid from Kela). Please note that student housing benefits will change in August. See Kela’s website for information on what students should know about the changes to housing benefits.

More information on Kela’s benefits for students can be found on their website.

Find yourself a place to live

The Tuudo app brings together the most important student services in one place.

You can find a checklist and more useful information on the the New Students page.

Studies Begin with Orientation

The academic year for new students begins with Orientation Week. During Orientation Week, you’ll receive all the essential information about your studies and meet your new fellow students.

You can check the orientation schedule for international degree students here (check the For You –section to find out the schedule for your own degree programme). See also information for new exchange students.

With the MazeMap campus map app, you can easily find your way to the right location.

With the Ask Me! campaign, we welcome new students to the University of Oulu. If you see someone wearing a pink Ask Me! badge, just tap them on the shoulder and feel free to ask for help. You can also find answers to frequently asked questions on the campaign website.

If you need individual study arrangements for health-related reasons, please review the University of Oulu’s policies on our website.

Checklist for Continuing Students

As a University of Oulu student, you must register annually as attending or non-attending. Registration for the academic year 2025–2026 is done electronically in the OILI registration service for each study right separately by 5 September 2025.

At the same time, please pay the student union membership fee. After paying the fee, you can activate your digital student card in Tuudo or get a new academic year sticker for your student card. Are you a doctoral researcher? See the instructions on the OYY website.

Please remember to proactively pay the healthcare fee to Kela, which grants access to FSHS services. You must pay the student healthcare fee if you are studying for a bachelor's or master's level university degree and have registered as attending for the current term.

Join the Ask Me! campaign to welcome new students – and claim a unique overall patch! See the campaign days and more information on the website.
