University Collegium decides: The university community can propose outside members for the Board of Directors

From now on, the outside members of the University Board of Directors will be selected by means of a three-phase process. In the first phase, a list of candidates is compiled by requesting proposals from the university community. In the second phase, the University Collegium selects a number of the candidates for interviews. In the third phase, the Collegium selects the members for the Board. Gender balance and the needs identified by the Collegium are taken into account in the selection process.

The University Collegium decided on the new selection process at its meeting on 19 May 2022.

The reform allows the entire university community to participate in the selection of outside members and improves the transparency of the Collegium’s activities by clarifying the operating model. In the past, the Collegium has decided the selection process for outside members on a case-by-case basis. In 2021, the selection of a new outside member was prepared by an internal working group appointed by the Collegium.

The Board of Directors of the University of Oulu consists of eleven members, six of whom come from within the university community and five from outside the community. Vacant seats for new outside members in the Board are expected to become open at the beginning of 2024.

Financial statement on the agenda in June

The Collegium decided that the financial statement and annual report of the University of Oulu will be on the agenda in the next meeting on 15 June 2022. The Board of Directors has already approved the financial statement of the University of Oulu for 2021.
