Abate Bekele Belachew

Postdoctoral Researcher in the Research Unit of Clinical Medicine (Lifecourse Medicine and Birth Cohort Research Group) and the Research Unit of Population Health (SchoolWell Project), with expertise in life course research. My PhD investigated how early-life environmental exposures, particularly ambient air pollution and cold weather, shape respiratory health trajectories from birth to young adulthood. I provided novel evidence on the asthma-infection cycle and the role of climate in asthma onset. Currently, I focus on well-being trajectories among individuals born preterm and study intersectional health inequalities across the life course.

Research interests

  • Life course modelling of health and wellbeing
  • Health inequalities
  • Intersecting determinants
