The high level of the unit’s research is reflected in the substantial amount of competitive research funding received. The most significant external funding has been granted for research related to prevention of type 1 diabetes, mechanisms of premature birth, pediatric infectious diseases, genetics and mechanisms of early onset multiorgan diseases, dermatological diseases and neurology. The high-quality research is aimed at promoting lifelong health. The unit’s research focuses on the mechanisms, prevalence, diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases. Researchers of the unit mainly use research methods of epidemiology, genetics, biomedicine and intervention.

In addition to research, Research Unit of Clinical Medicine is responsible for basic medical education in the degree program of Licentiate of Medicine as well as clinical and scientific postgraduate education.
