I am Research Director in the Civil Engineering research unit at the University of Oulu, where I lead the Infrastructure and Transport research group. My work focuses on transport and infrastructure systems at the intersection of digitalisation, sustainability and resilience. I approach these fields from an interdisciplinary systems perspective, combining technological, economic, organisational and societal dimensions.

Before joining the University of Oulu, I worked as a Senior Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in the fields of intelligent supply chains, digital services and sustainable industry. I coordinated the Horizon 2020 knowlEdge project and have extensive experience in developing and managing multidisciplinary research and innovation initiatives.

My current research and project-development activities cover intelligent and multimodal mobility, road safety, ports and logistics, climate-resilient and critical infrastructure, and the implications of energy transitions for transport systems and infrastructure, including the particular challenges faced by northern and Arctic regions.

I hold a Doctor of Social Sciences degree and completed my doctoral training in the Arctic Graduate School ARKTIS, focusing on sustainable economic development in the Barents Region. I am also a Docent in Industrial Engineering and Management, specialising in intelligent supply chains. I have taught at several universities and worked in the logistics industry, consultancy and software development. My work connects transport and infrastructure research with economic development and Europe’s green and digital transitions.
