Happening in the university’s 2026 culture programme in February

During January the beginning of the 2026 Capital of Culture has been celebrated in many ways throughout the Oulu2026 area and also at the university. In February the programme continues and there are various events to participate.

After work events

In case you are interested in movies dealing with northern themes, participate the Pegasus Library’s Off to the North! film festival 3.-5.2. During the week there will be three film screenings starting always at 5 pm in the Maisemasali of Pegasus Library. Expert talks featuring the screenings will be given on different dates by Eeva-Kristiina Nylander, Roger Norum as well as Asse Martikainen and Tuomas Niemelä. The film festival is part of Campus as a Stage After work events.

Other Campus as a Stage After work events will take place on the last Wednesday of the month, Wed 25.2. at 5 pm. In the After work event on Kontinkangas campus you can study the short introduction to Engineering student choir TeeKu (1 credit) and on the Linnanmaa campus the Professor Band performs as Shellfish Graveyard ensemble and the Student Theatre of Oulu warms the stage with their performances. The events are open for all and free of charge.

Culture amidst the study day

Campus as a Stage Culture lectures bring culture amidst everyday life already on Mon 2.2. at 9.50-10.10 am. On the Kontinkangas campus the event takes place in the lobby of Kieppi where you can dive in the world of improv theatre. At the same time on the Linnanmaa campus you will get to hear folk tunes and more by the university of chamber orchestra.

Folk tunes can also be heard on the Kontinkangas campus in front of Medisiina on Wed 4.2., 11.30 am – 12pm during culture lunch. On the Linnanmaa campus, you can grab a take-away lunch on Wed 11.2, 11.30 am -12 pm as Teekkaritorvet leads the samba train across the campus or join listening fairy tales on Wed 18.2., 11.30am – 12 pm in the restaurant Kerttu.

Exhibitions and other events

Various exhibitions will also be held: visit the open daycare LASTU’s kids’ mobile art work, Youth against Racism: Voices for change exhibition relating to Critical ChangeLab project, and SmartCanvas art installation. You can also take a virtual geology trip around the Oulu2026 area.

The traditional Brown Bag seminar will be held in February as a part of the university's culture programme with a special theme of friendship. Reserve your spot in the audience (please note that the seminar presentations are in Finnish)!
