Study Right

Once you have a valid right to study, you are able to pursue your studies and will receive a university user account, which provides access to the university’s study systems and library databases.

Annual registration

Remember to register for attendance or non-attendance at the beginning of each academic year and pay the Student Union membership fee when registering. In addition, you must pay the student health care fee for a higher education student in OmaKela yourself once per term.

Applying for an extension of study right

A target duration of study time has been defined for every degree begun after 1 May 2005. If the target duration is coming to an end, and you have not completed all the studies required for the degree, you can apply for an extended study period to complete your studies. You can check the duration of your study right from Peppi.

Completion of degree

You can apply for a non-degree study right for individual study units or certain study modules. After graduation, you have a possibility to apply for a complementary study right.

You can complement your expertise by selecting studies from the cross-institutional study offerings of other higher education institutions.

Reactivation of study right

If you have lost your study right, for example, because you forgot to complete your annual registration on time, you can apply for its reactivation for an additional fee.

Suspension of studies

You can suspend your studies temporarily or permanently.

Changing major subject and transferring study right

If you have not yet completed your bachelor's degree, you can apply for a change of major subject through the transfer application process, which is held twice a year for students at Finnish universities.

If your degree programme has been discontinued, you may have the right to transfer to a corresponding parallel degree programme.

Service fees

Some services, such as non-degree study rights and the re-registration of study rights, may incur fees.
