Research area leader: Associate Professor Jaakko Suutala
Data-driven AI team conducts high-quality research in the field of computational data analysis and develops methods for diverse real-world modeling problems. Our strengths are a strong, versatile background in engineering, mathematics, statistics, and broad knowledge within application areas.
Research area leader: Project Manager Antti Tikanmäki
The mission of the BISG-Robotics team is to create intelligent robotic systems that perceive, learn, and act autonomously in complex real-world environments while working safely and effectively with humans. The team combines expertise in robotics, AI, sensing, and embedded systems to address challenges in industry, health, wellbeing, and environmental applications. Through extensive participation in European and Finnish research programmes, BISG-Robotics has established a strong international presence and continues to develop impactful solutions together with academic and industrial partners
Research area leader: Professor Kimmo Halunen
The purpose of the Oulu University Secure Programming Group (OUSPG), active since 1996, is to study, evaluate and develop methods of implementing and testing application and system software in order to prevent, discover and eliminate implementation level security vulnerabilities in a proactive fashion. Our focus is on implementation level security issues and software security testing.
Research area leader: Professor Seppo Vainio
The objective of Bio-IT (information technology) research area is to better integrate ICT (information and communication technologies) and biotechnology/biomedicine domains. Target outcomes include filling the gaps across both domains and generating novel approaches to achieve better and concrete synergies and integration of these research areas.
In addition to scientific publications, the impact of BISG research is visible also through its involvement in standardisation bodies and in the innovation brought by its spin-offs.
