For new doctoral researchers
Study right and annual registration
After having accepted your study place in Studyinfo, you will be automatically registered at the University for the first academic year. In the following years you have to register to the University in the Oili system. For more information and annual registration periods, go to the University's For students page.
Your doctoral study right is valid up to the completion of the doctoral degree.
Doctoral researchers who have completed their master's degree outside Finland and have accepted the study place must present their original degree certificate, transcript of records, and identification document. Please make an appointment with your UniOGS coordinator to show the documents (see contact information).
Starting doctoral research and studies
The doctoral degree consists of research work, the doctoral thesis (based on research work), and 20-40 credits of doctoral studies depending on the degree programme. Doctoral training corresponds to four years of full-time work.
UniOGS recommends that you take the courses "Introduction to Doctoral Training" and "Scientific Research and Ethics" in the beginning of your studies. These mandatory courses will ease you into a smooth start of your doctoral training. You can register for the courses in Peppi.

Follow-up group
A follow-up group is nominated for each doctoral researcher to follow the progress of the research and studies, and to oversee that the training environment and supervision are sufficient as compared to the plans. Please find more information about the follow-up group from the link below.
Taking part in the research community
Getting to know other doctoral and senior researchers helps you become part of your research community. Participating in the meetings and seminars arranged by the research units gives you information on the topical issues and research in your unit. Research units often maintain their own e-mail lists. Please ask your supervisor how to join!
