Co-directors

Dr.  Roger Norum is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Cultural Anthropology, University of Oulu, Finland. 

Dr. Esa Ruuskanen is Senior Research Fellow in the Department of History, University of Oulu, Finland, and responsible for the minor subject in Environmental Humanities in the Faculty of Humanities. His research interests span the history of the utilisation and protection of peatlands in Western and Northern Europe from the 17th century onwards and energy histories.

Dr. Kari Väyrynen is Senior Lecturer in the Department of the History of Science and Ideas, University of Oulu, Finland, and Co-director of the Oulu Centre for Theoretical and Philosophical Studies of History. He has written articles on the philosophy of nature in Kant’s, Hegel’s and Marx’s writings. Currently, he is carrying out research on the philosophy of history and the history of causal and modal thinking.
