The Winqvist group participates in a NEJM article Breast-Cancer Risk in Families with Mutations in PALB2

The Winqvist group has participated in an extensive international study published recently in The New England Journal of Medicine. The participants from the University of Oulu were Professor R. Winqvist, and Docents K. Pylkäs and J. Moilanen. In this study it was shown that hereditary mutations in the PALB2 gene on average increase the risk of breast cancer to 35% by the age of 70. This important study further confirms the role of PALB2 as a clinically important breast cancer risk factor in addition to the previously identified BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
