General Orientation Programme
The general orientation for new international degree students will be organised on August 29, 2023 starting at 8.15. Please note that the Orientation will be organised on campus, and online participation is not possible. Programme will be published here in early summer.
During the orientation week, there will also be faculty and degree programme specific sessions. You can find your degree programme's orientation information below from the 'For you' -section. Simply select your degree programme from the drop-down menu.

Faculty of Education and Psychology
For new students at the Faculty of Education and Psychology, 2023-2024
New students will be starting their studies on Monday 28th August 2023.
- A detailed schedule of the first weeks will be updated below and sent to all accepted students latest in the beginning of August.
In the first academic week, there will be information sessions, introduction to the university and getting to know what university studies are all about. Your studies will also begin during these weeks.
- Be prepared to attend orientation sessions and teaching every day between 8-16.

1. Degree Program structures and courses
The faculty offers the following degree programs. The Finnish-medium degree structures can be found from the Finnish language website. The abbreviations used for the programs are found in the parentheses.

Master’s Programs in Education
The links above allow you to see in more detail a description of your degree program via the Peppi study guide.
The 5-year program in the Faculty of Education and Psychology comprise a 3-year Bachelor’s degree followed by a 2-year Master’s degree. The degrees include studies in the major subject and minor subject, language, communication and orientation studies, as well as elective courses. It is possible to take part in an international exchange and do practices abroad/in Finland during the studies. The study groups are typically 20 people.
The right to pursue studies in a 5-year program is granted for seven years, and that for studies in a 2-year Master’s program for four years.
Please note that students admitted to the University may be requested to provide an extract from the criminal records for the assessment of their ability to study. Such an extract may be requested only from students whose studies include practical training or other activities involving work with minors.
The extract will be requested before the beginning of the practical training or other activity. To ensure the safety of minors, it is necessary to ascertain that the student about to begin practical training has no criminal record of certain serious crimes (sex offence, murder, aggravated assault and battery, aggravated burglary and robbery and narcotics offence).
2. Study Counselling
You can seek counselling whenever you feel you need it. In the Faculty of Education and Psychology, you are helped, among others, by the study advisors (Education Designers), teacher tutors and tutor students.

3. Student Organisations
The student organisations representing different subjects arrange a variety of events and look after the interests of students during their studies at the university. You are welcome to join in the organisation represented by your own degree program. Completing studies

Personal tutor teacher (coordinator) and tutor students (kummi)
Each student in Master’s degree programmes have a designated personal tutor teacher (coordinators) and tutor students (kummi) who will guide and advice the student. Coordinator and kummi will provide support and assistance to students in their studies.

Master´s Programme in Biomedical Engineering in brief
Students of the programme have been selected in international call for applications. It is organized jointly by the Faculty of Medicine (FMED) and the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE). Students of the programme at the FMED will graduate as Masters of Health Sciences (MHSc) and at the ITEE - Masters of Science (MSc Tech).
Language of instruction is English.

You will find general information about starting your studies and steps to be taken in university´s web-page For new degree students. Kindly study these pages carefully.
Orientation week
The studies will begin with orientation, which is organized during week 35 from August 28 to Sept 1, 2023. It will include general programme for university´s all new students and programme-specific programme. In addition, during week 36 there are additional events, which you might like to consider and participate in (official opening ceremonies of the university and organizations presenting themselves on Linnanmaa campus and student festival in Kuusisaari).
Briefing of the the BME students will be arranged in the beginning of the orientation week. Concrete date, time and place will be updated here later.
In the briefing there will be participants from the degree programme, faculties´ academic affairs service teams and from the Guild of Medical Technology Students of Oulu (OLTO). You will hear more about the degree programme and starting and proceeding with your studies. Also, your student tutors will attend, and they will be your guide on campuses and tell you about the studies and studying from the student´s point of view.
First courses will begin during week 36 in accordance with the course-specific schedules.

We also recommend you to study carefully university´s For Students web pages, where all information concerning studies and studying has been compiled by themes. Under some themes, in the end of the page, there is “For you” drop down menu, where you can choose your own programme for checking, whether there is any additional, programme-specific information. This “For you” information will be updated regularly, even during coming autumn, when necessary.
Study guide and schedule for academic year 2023-24
Schedule for autumn 2023 will be published by the end of March 2023 as a part of the Peppi study guide. Schedule for spring 2024 will be published at the turn of October - November 2023. In the study guide there is a general description of the programme (“Show description”) and its study structure (“Show structure”). By choosing an individual course in the structure you will find the course-specific description and further – course timetable by clicking the “blue ribbon” in the description page.
Tuudo mobile application is a versatile tool for supporting and managing your studies and includes, for example, possibility to prepare your personal schedule. After having uploaded the app you will be able to pick up the courses to your Tuudo-calendar first by choosing “follow” and then beginning from Aug 1, 2023 – enroll for the chosen autumn courses and beginning from Dec 1, 2023 - for the chosen spring courses.
Kindly note that the changes, updates to the schedules are possible, but as soon as made, they will automatically update in Peppi and your Tuudo-calendar also.
More information about the schedule, enrollment for the courses etc. will be available during the orientation week.

Master´s Programme in Biomedical Engineering in brief
Students of the programme have been selected either in international or national call for applications. It is organized jointly by the Faculty of Medicine (FMED) and the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE). Students of the programme at the FMED will graduate as Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) and at the Faculty of ITEE - Master of Science (MSc Tech).
Primarily all BME students have the same curriculum and study structure. There are some differences in the study structure depending on whether the student has been admitted in national or international call and on the target degree she/he has chosen.

General Orientation for International Degree Students will be arranged on August 30, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon, on Linnanmaa Campus, Room L4.
The university will organize a Self-Hack workshop for all new students of the university on September 2, 2022 at 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2022-2023 will be held on September 5, 2022 at 3:15 p.m., in Saalasti Hall in Linnanmaa Campus. Ragistration deadline for the event is August 22, 2022.
An Opening Event of the Academic Year "HURMOS" (organized by the Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY) and the Student Union of the Oulu Applied Sciences (OSAKO) ) will be arranged on September 8-9, 2022.
First courses will begin on September 5, 2022 in accordance with the course-specific schedules.

In addition, a general university level orientation for all new international degree students will be organized.
OMS Orientation Weeks for all new degree students will begin with the information session. The weeks also include other events, e.g. UniOulu Self-Hack, planning your personal studies (preparing a Personal Study Plan). Some of your courses will start already on the first week. You will also be nominated a Tutor Teacher and a Tutor Student.
Personal Study Plan: Target to choose about 3 courses per one period which will give you about 15 cr in one period: 15 cr per period / 30 cr per semester / 60 cr per academic year.

University’s new study guide for academic year 2022-2023 is published here. The study guide includes information on degrees, curriculums, courses and course timetables. Information about the courses can be found by adding course code or name to ‘Search box’.
Students have to register for the courses in Peppi before the course starts.
During the orientation weeks you will meet your tutor teacher, with whom you will prepare your personal study plan (PSP) in Peppi.

Orientation week (preliminary programme)
The studies will begin with orientation, which is organized during week 35 from August 28 to Sept 1, 2023. On Mon 28th of August your tutor students will welcome you on university´s campus “Kontinkangas” at the Faculty of Medicine, which is located near the Oulu University Hospital. In addition during the week there will be a separate kick-off event in Nallikari camping area and other university level programme described in the linked programme.
Kindly note that some orientation events will take place also during week 36 such as, for example, official opening of the academic year (Mon 4.9.23), student fair (Thur 7.9.23) and student festival (Fri 8.9.23).
During the orientation week you will hear more about the degree programme and starting and proceeding with the studies.
First courses will start in accordance with course-specific schedules in week 36 beginning on 4th of Sept, 2023.
For students - web pages
We recommend you to study carefully university´s For Students web pages, where all information concerning studies and studying has been collected by themes. Under some themes, in the end of the pages, there is “For you” drop down menu, where you can choose your own programme for checking, whether there is any additional, programme-specific information. EBDS “For you” information will be prepared and updated when necessary in these sites during coming autumn.
Schedule for academic year 2023-24
Schedule for academic year 2023-24 is a part of the Peppi study guide. At the moment schedule for autumn 2023 has been published and the schedule for spring 2024 will be published in the beginning of November 2023. In the study guide there is a general description of the programme and its study structure. By choosing an individual course in the structure you will find the course-specific description and further – course timetable.
Tuudo mobile application is a versatile tool for supporting and managing your studies and includes, for example, possibility to prepare your personal schedule. After having uploaded the app you will be able to pick up courses organized during the academic year to your Tuudo-calendar first by choosing “follow” and then beginning from Aug 1, 2023 – enroll for the autumn courses. Registration for spring 2024 courses will begin on Dec 1, 2023.
Kindly note that the changes, updates to the schedules are possible, but as soon as made, they will automatically update in Peppi study system and in your Tuudo-calendar also.
More information about the app, schedule, enrollment etc. will be available during the orientation week.

Master´s Programme in Business Analytics in brief
The Programme combines data technology and information processing with business knowledge, and is organized by two different faculties: the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE) and the Oulu Business School.
The Master of Science in Technology degree (specializing in Computer Science and Engineering) and the Master of Science degree (specializing in Information Processing Science) are provided by the Faculty of ITEE. The Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration degree is provided by the Oulu Business School.
The choice of specialization and thereby the degree is made when applying for the programme. In Business Analytics Programme there is a curriculum and study structure for each of three specialization / degree.
The language of instruction is English.

Orientation week
The studies will begin with orientation, which is organized during week 35 from August 29th to September 2nd, 2022. It includes general programme for university's all new students and programme-specific programme.
Programme
Briefing of the Business Analytics students will be arranged on August 31, 2022 at 9 - 12, on Linnanmaa campus in Room SÄ118. It is also possible to attend the event via Zoom
In the briefing there will be participants from the degree programme and faculties´ academic affairs service teams. You will hear more about the degree programme and starting and proceeding with the studies. Also, your student tutors (“kummis”) will attend, and they will be your guide on campuses and tell you about the studies and studying from the student´s point of view.
The Orientation Week of ITEE kick off with the opening remarks by the Education Dean & Prof. Jari Iinatti alongside the international programmes' directors and coordinators on Monday, August 29, 9-10 am in Linnanmaa Campus in lecture hall L2. It is also possible to attend the event via Zoom.
General Orientation for International Degree Students will be arranged on August 30, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon, on Linnanmaa Campus, Room L4.
The university will organize a Self-Hack workshop for all new students of the university on September 2, 2022 at 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2022-2023 will be held on September 5, 2022 at 3:15 p.m., in Saalasti Hall in Linnanmaa Campus. Ragistration deadline for the event is August 22, 2022.
An Opening Event of the Academic Year "HURMOS" (organized by the Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY) and the Student Union of the Oulu Applied Sciences (OSAKO) ) will be arranged on September 8-9, 2022.
First courses will begin on September 5, 2022 in accordance with the course-specific schedules.

Schedule for academic year 2022-23 has been published as a part of the Peppi study guide for Business Analytics, Computer Science and Engineering and the Peppi study guide for Business Analytics, Information Processing Science. Schedules for spring 2023 will be published by the end of October. In the study guide there is a general description of the programme (“Show description”) and its study structure (“Show structure”). By choosing an individual course in the structure you will find the course-specific description and further – course timetable by clicking the “blue ribbon” in the description page.

Completing your studies

Personal tutor teacher and tutor students (kummi)
All students have a personal tutor teacher appointed by the faculty. Tutor teacher's task is to guide and advice you in the early stages of studying. The tutor teacher will introduce to you your field of studies, occupational issues, and important questions in working life. Each student in Master’s degree programme have also a designated personal tutor students (kummi) who will help when studies start at University of Oulu.

OMS Orientation Weeks for all new degree students will begin with the information session. The weeks also include other events, e.g. UniOulu Self-Hack, planning your personal studies (preparing a Personal Study Plan). Some of your courses will start already on the first week. You will also be nominated a Tutor Teacher and a Tutor Student.
Personal Study Plan: Target to choose about 3 courses per one period which will give you about 15 cr in one period: 15 cr per period / 30 cr per semester / 60 cr per academic year.
