Antenna Design and Technologies

Ping Jack Soh was born in Sabah, Malaysia. He received the PhD degree in electrical engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium.
He is an Associate Professor at the University of Oulu, Finland, and an Academy Research Fellow with the Research Council of Finland. He started his career as a Test Engineer (2002-2004), and an R&D Engineer (2005-2006) in two multinational electronic/telecommunication companies. He was then a Research Assistant (2009-2013), Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2013-2014) and a Research Affiliate (2014-date) at KU Leuven's WaveCoRE-Arenberg Group. He then joined Universiti Malaysia Perlis as a Senior Lecturer (2014-2017) and an Associate Professor (2017-2021) before joining the University of Oulu in 2021. In Oulu, he was also the coordinator for the “Devices and Circuit Technology” strategic research area within Finland's 6G Flaghip national research program (2022-2023), the world's first 6G research program. His research interests include antenna, metasurface and array design, and their applications in wireless body area communication (WBAN); 5G/6G communications; sensing; compact satellites; EM safety and absorption; and wireless techniques for healthcare.
Dr. Soh was the recipient of the IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters' Outstanding Associate Editor award in 2025 and 2024, the URSI Young Scientist Award in 2015, the IEEE MTT-S Graduate Fellowship for Medical Applications in 2013 and the IEEE AP-S Doctoral Research Award in 2012. He was also the Second Place Winner of the IEEE Presidents' Change the World Competition in 2013. He serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWPL), the IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, and the International Journal of Numerical Modelling: Electronic Networks, Devices and Fields (IJNM, Wiley). He is/was also the Guest Editor of several Special Issues in AWPL, IJNM and the IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology (J-ERM) related to topics in wearable and implantable communications (IJNM 2019), in reconfigurable and multifunctional electromagnetic surfaces (AWPL 2025), in filtering antennas and arrays (AWPL 2024), and in the application of electromagnetics and RF signals to medicine and biology (J-ERM 2024). He serves in the IEEE MTT-S Education Committee as the Co-Chair of the Undergraduate Scholarships Sub-Committee, and the TPC Chair of the 20th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) 2026. He was also the TPC Co-Chair of the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Biomedical Conference (IMBioC) 2023. He is a Chartered Engineer registered with the UK Engineering Council; a Senior Member of the IEEE, and a Member of the IET and URSI.
