THE ANNUAL MEETING OF FINNISH GEOGRAPHERS 2020
Searching for solutions: Geographers for the environment and people
The 2020 Annual Meeting of Finnish Geographers will be postponed by one year. The event will be held in Oulu at the end of October 2021. Session proposals already submitted will be considered directly for the next year.
Current public discourse is characterized by various societal and environmental crises and challenges, and by headlines calling for solutions to these. Phenomena from climate change to loss of biodiversity, from economic crises to environmental damage caused by mining, and from sustainable tourism to regional differentiation and well-being all connect in time and place.
At the 2020 Annual Meeting of Finnish Geographers, we will ask: How can geographers contribute to addressing these and other environmental and societal challenges? In the Geography Days’ sessions, workshops, and PhD-course we seek answers to questions such as:
- What are the current major geographical problems and their solutions?
- What can human and physical geography offer, jointly and separately, to solve various societal and environmental challenges and problems?
- How can the societal impact of the geography community be strengthened?
Presentations from all branches of geography and from a variety of perspectives are welcome.
Welcome to Oulu, all geographers and those with a geography mindset!
Together with the Geographical Research Unit, the event is organized by The Geographical Society of Northern Finland, The Geographical Society of Finland and The Society for Regional and Environmental Studies. The societies will also be on display during the event.
