Admission requirements

Students wishing to study Finnish as a main subject at the university must first pass an entrance exam held annually each summer. Finnish can also be studied as a main subject by students who have already completed the Basic and Intermediate Level studies and received a minimum average grade of 3, subject to the Faculty’s approval of the change of major.

The department does not offer elementary courses in the Finnish language and all courses are taught in Finnish. Foreign students with a Bachelors degree and excellent command of Finnish may apply to a masters program in Finnish. Please contact the department for more information.
