Kuvaus:

Ilmanlaatu on maailmanlaajuisesti tärkein yksittäinen terveysriski, ja huomattava osa väestöstä kärsii myös siitepölyjen aiheuttamista allergioista. Arvioimme ilmanlaadun, siitepölyjen ja säätekijöiden vaikutuksia ihmisten sairastavuuteen ja kuolleisuuteen sekä maailmanlaajuisesti että 14 kohdekaupungissa. Lähtökohtana oleva aiemmin tuotettu laaja aineisto pitoisuuksista ja säätekijöistä käsittää tunneittain arvioidut pitoisuustiedot 35 vuoden ajalta maailmanlaajuisesti, Euroopassa ja pääkaupunkiseudulla. Toisena lähtökohtana on laaja kansainvälinen väestön terveysvaikutuksia käsittelevä tutkimus, jossa on terveystietoja sadasta eri kaupungista 14 maassa.

Eräänä tutkimuksen painopisteenä ovat kansainvälisen laivaliikenteen tuottamat ilmansaasteet. Hankkeessa arvioidaan mm. millaisia positiivisia vaikutuksia suunnitelluilla uusilla päästörajoitusalueilla voisi olla. Tällaiset tiedot tulevat olemaan avainasemassa arvioitaessa tulevien mahdollisten päästörajoitusten hyötyjä ja haittoja.
