The Climate-Smart Food via Cross-Border Cooperation - With Businesses, for the Businesses! (ClimateFood) project aims to climate-smart SMEs operating in the different stages of the Northern food value ecosystems in Finland (Northern Ostrobothnia, Lapland) and Sweden (Norrbotten, Västerbotten). The project's main objectives are:

  1. To identify opportunities for climate-smarting food businesses and food value chains, including collaborative regional and cross-border activities
  2. To increase the adoption of the identified climate-smart practices in food businesses and food value chains
  3. To establish a cross-border network cooperation to boost (1) the transfer of knowledge, best practices and success stories related to climate-smart operations in food value chains, (2) the development of collaborative regional and cross-border activities, and (3) the adoption of new climate-smart practices in food businesses.

The main beneficiaries of the project are SMEs operating in the food ecosystems of Northern Finland and Sweden in, for example, primary production, food processing and/or wholesale/retail trade. The secondary beneficiaries include e.g. technology providers, innovation brokers, RDI and education organisations, and advisory organisations.

For the SMEs, the project offers first-hand access to all the activities and results related to developing, evaluating, upgrading and adopting climate-smart practices for/in food businesses. In addition, the SMEs are provided the benefits of cross-border network cooperation covering the Northern parts of Finland and Sweden.

The project partners are ProAgria Oulu/Oulu Rural Womens Advisory Organisation (Finland), Hushållningssällskapet Norrbotten-Västerbotten (Sweden), University of Oulus Kerttu Saalasti Institute (Finland), Lapland University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and Luleå University of Technology (Sweden).
