Justice Akanegbu is a water resources and environmental engineer whose majors are in snow and runoff modelling, surface water quality modelling and hydrological model development. He obtained his B.Tech. degree in environmental technology, majoring in flood and erosion control, from Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria and his M.Sc. Tech. degree in environmental engineering, majoring in water resources engineering, from University of Oulu, Finland.

Among his previous research works, include assessment of different methods of measuring hydraulic conductivity in peat soils using DRAINMOD as a verifying tool and study on water quality modelling of lake under eutrophication pressure.

His current research work is on development of less complex and climate data index based hydrological model with dynamic parameters that will enable hydrologists to overcome the problem of hydrological non-stationarity and limited data availability affecting runoff prediction/modelling in cold climate regions.

The research focuses on developing a robust and less data dependent model with few parameters that can be easily regionalised using functional relationships with catchments’ physical and climate data readily available in cold climate regions. The work also focuses on finding ways to incorporate dynamic parameters in conceptual hydrological models, which will enable such model to capture inter-annual variabilities in runoff response from northern catchments. This will make such model a viable tool for climate change impact assessment on runoff response in cold climate regions.
