The aim of this work package is to provide a broad and interdisciplinary state of the art related to current measurement, modelling and design techniques available and used in mine and tailings dam design and in environmental protection.
Remote sensing for the mining industry
This report gives a brief introduction into remote sensing methods and provides a review of how different remote sensing methods can be used for applications relevant for the mining industry. Applications range from the mapping of surface mineralogy for exploration, topography and topographical changes useful during the planning and operation of mines, detecting and monitoring environmental impacts, and mapping surface movements of mine structures to monitor safety aspects. Remote sensing can facilitate mine planning processes, improve safety during and after mine operation and monitor environmental impact and rehabilitation.
