My research interests and doctoral dissertation focus on the embodied interaction of sports coaching and teaching. I am interested in the way coaching is jointly constructed by both the coach and the coached through multimodal means. Central to my research is the concept of participation, and the way it can be built through movement, orientation and other embodied means. I am also interested in how movement, and the subsequent changes in participation, can trigger activity transitions. The institutional aspects of coaching interaction, and the way that these institutional elements can be utilized as a semiotic resource, also interest me. My primary tool for research is Conversation Analysis.
