LET received Finnish Academy research project funding: PREP 21 - Preparing teacher students for the 21st century learning practices. The project is consortium with The University of Eastern Finland and University of Jyväskylä. In the University of Oulu the project is led by Prof. Sanna Järvelä. Teacher education has a significant role in preparing pre-service teachers with adequate 21st century skills (i.e. skills for learning, problem-solving, and collaboration, as well as an ability to use ICT in teaching and learning). The aim of this PREP21-project is to investigate and outline factors that affect the development of students’ strategic and collaborative problem-solving skills and their competencies and attitudes towards the use of ICT in teaching and learning. This will be done by conducting both large-scale longitudinal and process-oriented studies across three consortium partner universities, especially in the LEAForum in Oulu University. The results of this project will be useful for developing Finnish teacher education, and schools, to better respond to the demands of the 21st century.
