Multilingual practices and social involvement
Oulu, 6. - 8. November 2017

Usage-based approaches to multilingualism are an ever growing field of study among linguists around the world. Among the questions addressed in the course are:
- What is the relation between multilingual practices and language change
- How do multilingual practices manifest themselves in language use
- How does people’s multilingual language use reflect their thinking
- How can different linguistic frameworks such as cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics benefit from the study of multilingual practices
The course is taught by Ad Backus (University of Tilburg), Johanna Vaattovaara (University of Tampere) and Anna Verschik (University of Tallinn).
Participants can hold a 10 minute presentation of their work, book a consultation with one of the teachers, and/or receive feedback on a paper they’re preparing. When registering, please indicate which form of participation you prefer. We will also need to know if you will be attending on all three days or not.
